Discounters to a record 15% market share in UK

Aldi and Lidl have grabbed market share in the UK grocery market as price becomes ever more importance for the consumers. The German discounters were the only grocers to gain market share from a year ago.

Especially Aldi jumped 0,9%-points compared to a year ago. Lidl managed to grow by 0,7%-points. Together they command a combined market share of 15% (Aldi 8,6% & Lidl 6,4%).

As the discounters have grown market share from 5,9% in 2013 (by 9,1%-points), the Big 4 (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda & Morrisons) have lost combined market share by 10%-points.
