Lidl International grows strongly and profitably
The retail magazine Retail Detail had an interesting article about the International arm of Lidl. The International arm has grown rapidly over the last 10 years. Since 2012 the revenues have jumped from a bit less than 30 billion € to almost 70 billion €.
The growth has not come at the expense of profitability. Lidl’s international operations have generated sufficient profits throughout the growth period. However, the profitability rates have gradually declined.
The Finnish subsidiary of Lidl has one of the highest market shares of Lidl’s international markets. Despite the nearly 10% market share Lidl has been able to reach it with surprisingly good profitability compared to other international markets.
