Walmart growing steadily with stores

The retail giant Walmart reported a 4,3% overall revenue growth for the third quarter of the year. This was heavily impacted by the divestment of Asda business in the UK.

The core US retail segment (~70% of total) grew by 9,3% driven especially by strong growth in the stores. Ecommerce growth has decreased to single digit numbers: 8% this quarter. This is significantly lower growth than what Walmart saw prior to pandemic, when eCommerce business was growing by 25% to 50%. However, for the Q2 & Q3 one has to note that eCommerce has very high growth numbers from the last year. Compared to 2019 levels, online is still almost double the size in terms of revenues.

Walmart is readying itself for supply chain constrained Christmas.

The company reported it has huge inventories as buffer for the Christmas. Inventories were up 11% compared to last year.
