XXL revenues declining in 2021

After a strong growth year in 2020, the sports and outdoor retailer XXL reported a -4% decline in revenues for 2021. the decline was a result of steep declines during Q2/2021, which had a notably strong comparison numbers from the previous year.

Of the different operating countries, Sweden saw the strongest numbers with +13,8% during the last quarter. For the year 2021 Sweden saw a decline of only -0,5%, whereas the biggest market Norway declined by -2,3%. Finland was the poorest performer of the big XXL segments with -10,6%.

Intersport taking back market share in Finland

In Finland XXL has steadily grown to challenge Intersport as the biggest sports retailer. In 2020 XXL had grown to be only about a quarter smaller than Intersport (-27%). However, during 2021 Intersport grew (+8%) whereas XXL declined.
