Jysk: one of the best-growing retailers in Europe
The Danish home and living retailer has capitalised on customers’ tight budgets during the inflationary times. The company was able to grow by 6,3%. Also, the company's highly efficient internationalisation has helped propel sales to new heights.
Since the fiscal year 2014/2015 (9 years ago), Jysk has grown by 75,6% to become a more than 5 billion euro furniture retailer. Jysk is probably already Europe’s second-biggest furniture and home retailer after IKEA.
Jysk has been expanding rapidly in the footsteps of its Swedish bigger brother. Jysk currently operates more than 3 300 stores in 48 countries.
The international growth has been rapid, with 135 stores opened both last year and the year before. According to its annual report, in Greece, the company went from no stores to 50 stores in only 7 years.
The company has an ambitious goal: to become the world’s most widespread and profitable chain of stores.
With the likes of H&M and IKEA, it will be a challenge. On the other hand, Jysk operates a much more nimble model where it can open smaller stores in more places.
Profitable Jysk is already. Throughout its expansion, the company has maintained high EBIT and profit margins. Over the last years, EBIT margin has slightly dipped from 14,1% to 12,6% a year ago.
All in all, Jysk is one of Europe's most prominent growth retailers. With highly profitable but rapid expansion and a proven track record of opening new markets, Jysk will give IKEA and other big home retailers a run for their money.
