Strong growth for restaurants in Sweden

After abysmal 2020 and a mixed 2021, restaurants in Sweden seem to be growing strong during the first quarter of 2022. Especially March saw stronger revenue than even pre-pandemic 2019.

During the latter part of 2021 there were already several months during which the industry was able to reach above the 2019 levels. The growth trajectory of the early 2022 looks promising for the restaurant industry.

Fast food as the robust performer

The growth during the last 12 months has been driven by the sectors of the industry that were hurt most badly during the pandemic. These include restaurants near traffic, in hotels, in offices… These restaurants have seen sales growth of up to 50+% during the last six months. However, there are also really steep declines as comparison points from the previous year.

On the other hand Fast food restaurants barely declined during the pandemic. Despite that they have had a good share of the growth in eating out. For the last two quarters fast food has grown 25% and 24%.
