UK online retailing looking for a new normal?

After rapid increases in the share of online during last spring, the UK food and non-food online retailers have seen decreasing share of sales going to online.

For food retailing, the share decline seems to have stabilised to around 10% of all grocery retailing.

For non-food, the share of online has decreased more sharply. A year ago online share for non-food retailing surpassed 40% of all non-food sales during the strict lockdowns.

New levels of normal for the share of online seem to be emerging with around 10% for groceries and around 20% for non-food.

For food that is significantly higher than the 5-6% prior to pandemic.

For non-food the pandemic jump seems to be significantly lower as the share of sales from online was already 15-16% prior to pandemic.
