Inflation and grocery growth declining in Sweden

The Swedish grocery market saw a continued decline of growth in April as the Year-on-Year growth has come down from the peak in January. In April, the total market grew by 6,5%. The lower inflation growth drives the decline in growth. Inflation growth peaked in February.

The grocery market is still growing much less than the inflation. The volume declines have decreased as the difference between inflation growth and market growth has diminished over the last months.

Online remains at significantly lower levels during pandemic times. April was the first month with comparable sales from a non-lockdown month (lockdown measures were lifted on the 1st of April 2022). Online revenues declined by -7,7%, putting online’s share at 4% of all grocery retailing (compared to 4,5% last year).
